Applications to U of G, Guelph-Humber Increase

January 17, 2012 - Campus Bulletin

Total applications to the University of Guelph are up 4.4 per cent — double the system average — according to figures released Monday by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC).

Applications to the Guelph campus are up 4.1 per cent and to the University of Guelph-Humber, 6.3 per cent.

U of G received 24, 222 applications and Guelph-Humber, 4,629. (Students often submit multiple applications.)

“As always, we are pleased that Guelph is the school of choice for so many prospective students,” said Maureen Mancuso, provost and vice-president (academic).

“This robust application pool continues to provide the necessary foundation from which to make strategic enrolment decisions.”

OUAC’s annual January snapshot of applications is intended to help universities with their enrolment planning. Its data show how many students applied to Ontario universities from within and outside of the secondary school system and the number of applications generated by those students.

The Council of Ontario Universities, chaired by U of G president Alastair Summerlee, has issued a news release about the system-wide application numbers. “The continuous growth in the number of applications shows that students in Ontario place a strong emphasis on a university education as a critical foundation for a successful future,” Summerlee said.
